Its More Fun with me

The name’s Maylette Cabanada, most people call me “maymay”. I am 19 years old, grew up in the humble province of Makilala North Cotabato. I left my hometown to study college here in Davao City.

As a girl who lived uptown for all her life I assumed that it’s not going be easy as to living here in such big city, so adjustments were made and stuff linked to that. But I was fortunate enough to make it and lived my life here peacefully.

I chose Holy Cross of Davao College as my school, enrolled Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major Marketing Management. Since then I never tried to shift from other offered courses even though it isn’t really my choice nonetheless it’s the course I learned to love and valued.

During my freshman year I experienced so many things that are new to me. It was real fun experiencing those.

Photos above are like sneak peak of my first years living and studying in the city. It depicts my first involvement in a “fun run”; well literally it was really fun not to mention that I was running along with my newly found school friends.

We are holding our certificate of appreciation for participating in such big event.

MOVING FORWARD

Studying college was never easy as I have assumed, I encountered problems like a normal college student but we all know we could not resist them from coming, right. I embraced those things with wide arms open as I discern it is part of the obstacle course that God has arranged for me, for me to be ready in facing the real world.

But in every school life you cannot say that you've been to a very boring boulevard for the reason that you actually did not. Happiness is given, yes it is. You will get to know new people and in one second they’re your best of friends. The bond that we established between me and my friends, the memories we shared in the four corners of our classrooms (though we change class room every hour and every new semester haha), the naughtiness and tricky gestures we did (but not to the extent that we broke the R&R of the school) is really something. It is not exchangeable by any other things nor sold in a market where we are ought to be.

As I have said my friends and I shared a lot of memories (because we assured that we will be classmates for the rest of our college lives hahaha) like the photos below.

we went to a tree planting activity in one of our subjects; it is very pleasing to see students like me helping save our environment. It’s a small step but could mean a big help.

we were having dinner in some restaurant here in the city with our teacher in Humanities class, the main reason why we ate there is to learn the proper etiquette or the proper way of eating in a fine resto. The experience was cool, eating and learning is like hitting two birds with one stone.

another sequel of “hitting two birds with one stone” this time it’s all about beauty. We had a “make-up” activity where we are tasked to beautify ourselves with the help of a partner (a classmate). It was my first time to lay my hands on another person putting cosmetic products and all, we were laughing the whole time since it hasn't gone the way it should be. We had genuine fun anyway.

one of our minor subjects tasked us to make a video a TV ad to be specific. We placed our shootings in Jacks Ridge Davao and there we made another genuine fun memory. A perfect grade was given and our teacher commended our project.

it was just an ordinary day nothing really happened but the mere fact that I was present in school is something worth to be valued and treasured.

an educational tour was prepared by the school for us intern students, we went to Bansalan Davao Del Sur to see how Coco Sugars are made and also to know its process. On the second day of our educational tour, the group went Samal Island to see how seaweeds are planted and harvested. It was actually  my first time to see them in roots. At the same day also we went to Panabo Davao Del Norte to see their Bangus industry.

four years ago I was dreaming of wearing a uniform that is diverse from other students of Holy Cross and by that I mean an intern’s uniform. The dream that I was dreaming few years back has now become a reality, I am now an intern of my program.

I took the path where there is no guarantee of making it, but I kept the faith in me and did my best.

As a girl who lived uptown for all her life, a girl who was not really sure of the future after finishing high school has now achieving the goals of her life one step at a time.

That's me and my college life <3
